Alan Mercer

Resin & Epoxy Writer, 12 Years Casting

About Alan

Alan Mercer has been casting, testing, and (occasionally) cleaning up epoxy mistakes for the last 12 years out of a small workshop. He cut his teeth pouring table tops and river-style pieces, then moved on to deep-pour and art-resin work where precise mix ratios and exothermic heat matter most.

That hands-on time taught him the exact volumetric and gravimetric relationships in two-part epoxy — how even a small deviation from a manufacturer's spec ratio can cause incomplete cures, brittle pieces, or a dangerous exothermic runaway. Every mix ratio and safety warning on Epoxy Calc Hub comes straight from what he has measured, tested, and learned the hard way in the shop.

What I Work With & What I've Learned

  • 12 years of epoxy and resin casting experience
  • Skilled in mix ratio optimization — volume vs. weight conversion accuracy
  • Tested exothermic reaction safety and maximum pour depth limits on multiple resin systems
  • Long-time user of deep-pour and art-resin products from several major makers
  • Constantly cross-checks every recipe against the manufacturer's technical data sheet

Role at Epoxy Calc Hub

Alan runs the technical side of Epoxy Calc Hub. He checks every mix ratio against manufacturer data sheets, verifies exothermic safety thresholds from his own pour tests, and keeps the weight-to-volume conversions accurate for each product. His goal is simple: make every calculator output chemically sound and safe to use.
